Acting President Slumber Tsogwane is expected to grace this year’s Basubiya Cultural Festival slated for Kavimba from September 21-22.

Cisiya Nkulu Trust chairperson, Mr Tedious Yambwa told BOPA that preparations were ongoing and the event promised to be bigger and better.

Cisiya Nkulu is a trust that looks after the interests of the Veekuhane tribe popularly known as Basubiya.

The Basubiya are found in the Chobe District from Pandamatenga to Parakarungu.

Mr Yambwa said they had partnered with lodges in the district such as Ngoma Safari Lodge, Chobe Elephant Camp and Muchenje Lodge.

He said the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Culture Development and the Ministry of Environment, Natural Resources, Conservation and Tourism were also on board.

Mr Yambwa said on the first day, the youth and other guests would be taught Basubiya culture and their way of life by demonstrating milking a cow, ploughing and fishing.

Day two would be dedicated to performances of Seperu cultural dance groups from Parakarungu, Kachikau, Kavimba, Satau and Mabele.

Mr Yambwa said there would be entertainment galore and that other groups were expected from Namibia.

Dj Latimmy and Namibia’s Okocha will grace the event.
