Tourism company injects over P200 000 into Tsodilo

Desert and Delta Safaris, a tourism company has injected over P200 000 towards improving the welfare of the needy students at Tsodilo Junior Secondary School in Maun.
The company’s efforts are in line with the government initiative Adopt-A-School which aimed at forging partnerships with individuals, private companies, Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) to assist schools as a way of supporting classroom instruction.
Through the initiative, individuals or companies and organisations work with schools to provide volunteers or financial resources towards the development of the education sector.
It was reported that since 2014, the company has been spending P70 000 every year up to date supporting the guidance and counselling unit of Tsodilo school by donating full uniforms and stationery to disadvantaged children.
The company also sponsors the top the 10 achievers to a motivational trip to one of their camps at the end of the year to expose children to bush experience.
Speaking at the handing over of full school uniform and stationery to 20 underprivileged students, Tsodilo School management appreciated the good gesture by the company.
The school head, Mr Phuluweni Thapo said their partnership was born through the assistance from Travel for Impact Company which works closely with Desert and Delta Safaris.
He said for the past four years, they had been enjoying the partnership as their students who were not catered for by the council through the Social and Community Development department benefited a lot.
His deputy, Mr Tebogo Kootsholetse said the company came to their rescue after the launch of the Adopt-A-School initiative.
He said initially they signed a five-year contract but later the company manager announced that they would walk with them beyond the five-year contract as they believed in investing in education.
He said the number of beneficiaries had increased up to 20 and appreciated the gesture which he said had made a huge difference in the lives of the students.
“Your donation has given our students the integrity they required to learn as now they can freely compete with others and I wish other companies could emulate your efforts,” he added.
Desert and Delta Safaris, chief executive officer, Mr John Gibson assured the school management about their promise to continue with the partnership.
Their company, which was formed in 1982, he said had grown tremendously and had been playing an active role in community activities through their social corporate investment.
One of the company’s core philosophy was to plant back to the community and also to invest in the children’s future which is in education.
Mr Gibson said they believed in investing in education it could change people’s lives adding that they were willing to see schools develop with an aim to improve the learning environment.
Kgosi Kegaisamang Ramokwena of Boseja Ward thanked the company for playing an active role towards the development of the education system in the region.
He called on other companies emulate their efforts and support disadvantaged children by providing the essentials. ENDS
