The Good Samaritans Foundation has received accolades for its role in developing Molepolole community, especially women and youth.
Launching the Good Samaritans Foundation’s Independence Day tournament sponsorship on September 18, the Minister of Nationality, Immigration and Gender Affairs, Dorcas Makgato, said modernisation had killed traditional family structures resulting with uncertainty among the youth.
She applauded The Good Samaritans chairperson, Kabo Morwaeng, for assisting the youth, adding that the empowerment of individuals was critical in moulding the society. Makgato said women were faced with many challenges, therefore they were forced to play catch-up with their male counterparts, adding however that males should also be on board in addressing gender based violence issues.
The Good Samaritans would sponsor the tournament to the tune of P50 000 and the minister said she was pleased since netball had been included.
She said sport was important because it taught one to accept defeat, while developing leadership skills.
Minister Makgato said sport also made one to develop the spirit of perseverance and enabled people to enjoy fame.
For his part, Morwaeng said the tournament had been running for four years and this year, 23 football and eight netball teams will participate.
He explained that youth empowerment was not only through football, but they planned to hold workshops where they would be taught about various government programmes. Morwaeng said his organisation had been undertaking various corporate social responsibility programmes in the constituency, some of them not reported in the media because of the dire situation the beneficiaries were in.
The football games will be staged in different wards in Molepolole South. ENDS
