Water woes continue

18 Sep 2018

Water supply and demand for Kanye and Moshupa remains unchanged as it is hinged on long-term infrastructure development, says Southern District Council chairperson, Mr Alec Seametso.

Addressing the Southern District Council meeting on September 17, he said further shortage was anticipated as demand increased with the season’s activities.

“We, however, remain hopeful that as we are approaching the rainy season. The rains will make a positive impact on underground water,” he said.

He said all was not lost as Water Utilities Corporation (WUC) continued with efforts to maintain steady water supply through a responsive maintenance schedule to plants and equipment.

The corporation, he said, has taken to water rationing and bowsing in response to the situation at hand.

He said the corporation has introduced a shift rota for drivers to allow them to work up to 10pm, exchanging the available two water bowsers and one bowser for Moshupa and Kanye respectively.

He also added that WUC was implementing projects which were at different stages of completion to further improve the water situation.

Councillor Seametso said the projects include equipping and interconnecting four boreholes at Dilokwana and Ga-Segogwane to the existing Kanye water supply scheme.

He also said the construction of the North South Carrier project which was interconnecting Kanye, Polokwe, Moshupa and Thamaga was at 70 per cent complete. ENDS
