Gaborone council adopts strategic plan
18 Sep 2018
Gaborone City Council (GCC) mayor Mr Kagiso Thutlwe has implored stakeholders to partake in the city’s five-year development strategy.
Addressing a full council meeting where the city’s strategic plan was adopted, Mr Thutlwe welcomed participation of stakeholders such as civic leaders, Members of Parliament, residents and other players to look at issues that would be addressed and accomplished over the next five-year period.
“Council guarantees the requisite policy framework to create the ever increasing space for new partnerships from private players, governments departments, NGOs, donors, special interest groups and associations, communities and residents, friends of Gaborone and all those who have anything to do with Gaborone,’’ he said.
He said the strategic plan, which will run from 2018 to 2023, was a road map to achieve the council’s vision and mission of providing social services and municipal infrastructure through good local governance in collaboration with stakeholders.
Mr Thutlwe said the purpose of the plan was to guide and focus the council on its areas of concern and priorities within the broad mandate of service delivery as well as opening the local authority to greater public participation, public accountability and multi-sector partnership building.
Mr Thutlwe said the council was still faced with challenges such as poor infrastructure management, lack of public square grounds, poor management of land and traffic congestion.
“I have great hope that together we shall not only lead Gaborone to prosperity, but raise it to greater heights,” said Mr Thutlwe. ENDS
