Gaborone United have elected a new committee that will run the club for four years.

New president, Moffat Mophuting was elected unopposed after Lonke Herbert and Gaborone Moffat withdrew their candidacy.

Boitumelo Nsunge also had a smooth sailing after Judge Mookodi also withdrew from contesting for the club chairmanship.

Tamocha Lenyeletse is the new Gaborone United secretary general after amassing 257 votes beating Kgomotso Monageng who was only voted by 19 people while Donald Seleke changed his mind about contesting for the position.

The new treasurer, Onyana Mafojane beat Alexander Rakhane with 268 votes against eight.

The club has been surrounded by controversy ranging from poor governance, failure to field a full squad for official games, and the Bismarck Appiah saga, and some football pundits are of the view that the committee will stabilise the Money Machine's sinking ship.

Since June, the club has been run by the elders committee as prescribed in the constitution, which states that when the club is in a crisis the club will be handed to the elders committee, who shall call a general meeting where the executive committee will be elected to run the club.

In his acceptance speech, Nsunge thanked GU supporters for showing confidence in him, adding that the celebrations for winning the elections were over given that there was a lot of work to be done.

“As a national executive committee we are going to double our efforts to make sure that the club goes back to its glory days. I can promise you today we are going to wipe your tears, we are going to run bare-footed to stabilise this team,” he said.

Nsunge also said in an interview that GU started the league on a wrong footing. He added that they would ensure that there was cohesion so that the team could starts to collect maximum points.

He said he was cognizant that GU members wanted the committee to bring an investor on board.

He said they would meet and discuss the proposal as a matter of urgency. ENDS
