The Kopong Annual Charity Cup committee in partnership with AT&T Monnakgotla travel tours donated over 100 sanitary pads to Kopong Junior Secondary School on September 11.

Receiving the donations, Kopong Junior Secondary School head, Tlhomamo Gaborekwe thanked them for their generosity, saying the pads would go a long way in helping the girl child.

She also said the donation came at the right time as most girls cannot afford to buy sanitary pads for themselves.

The school head said it was important that girls be provided with the sanitary pads especially when they reached the menstrual cycle.

Gaborekwe advised parents to play an active role in their children’s education by giving them words of encouragement and ensuring that they performed better.

“Let us strive together for the betterment of children’s education and work together as a public for community development,” she said.

She commended Kopong Charity Cup committee and AT&T Monnakgotla for showing commitment and participating in community development.

The school head said companies should show their corporate social responsibility because the school had students who needed help.

“Some students come to school dirty, some do not even have school uniform. This is painful because not having proper school uniform affects a child’s education. I therefore cry out to companies to help my students,” she said.

Handing over the sanitary pads on behalf of Kopong Charity Cup and AT&T Monnakgotla, area councillor Seipokeng Mokoto commended the duo for the spirit of compassion and giving back to the community.

He said the committee always donated to people living with disabilities, the needy and the less privileged in his area.

He urged other individuals willing to assist to work hand in hand with the committee for the benefit of their community.

The founder of Kopong Annual Charity Cup, Tshepo Ronkwane said the annual Kopong Charity Cup football tournament was a youth pioneer project which wants to raise funds to buy winter uniform to the less privileged students in Kopong.

The tournament provides a platform for players to interact, keep fit, network and entertain football fanatics.

It also presents organisations with an opportunity to engage in corporate social responsibility by investing in youth pioneered projects. ENDS
