13 Sep 2018

Kgatleng Annual Festive Spectacular (KAFS) will on Independence Day host a tournament to honour football legends and the impact they have had in developing the sport in Kgatleng.

Speaking in an interview, tournament organiser Sugar Molefe said the tournament was meant to honour legends such as former Township Rollers star Mmoni ‘States’ Segopolo, former Mochudi Centre Chiefs’ player Ridwell Mfolwe and BDF X1’s Louis Setshwane amongst others.

Molefe also said football in Botswana has seen significant growth due to the role the former footballers played.

“Some of these legends have groomed professional footballers that we see excelling, and we need to appreciate their work,” he said.

He also said the tournament would be used as a leisure activity to cater for everyone since it would be on Independence Day.

“During public holidays in Kgatleng people attend various activities such as dikopelo and music festivals and we wanted to cater for football lovers to come and enjoy watching football and to mingle,” added Molefe.

He also said the tournament would be part of preparations for the upcoming festive tournament in December.

He said funds collected from the tournament would be used as prize money for the Kgatleng Annual Festive Spectacular in December, and that it would also assist with other logistics.

Furthermore, Molefe said teams that would be participating in the tournament included Rebels Social Club, Mochville Social Club and Ba Tona Social Club as curtain raisers.

He said the winning team from the three social clubs would play against the legends in the final match.

Molefe commended their sponsors Delight Tents, Peech Bac Bar and Restaurant.

He urged football lovers to attend in large numbers in order to come and learn from and mingle with the football legends. ENDS
