Behavioral change vital for girls - Nnoi

One of the founders of Jars of Fragrance, Ms Lentle Nnoi, says with social media dominating people’s daily routine, behavior change especially among young people has become a concern.
She said boarding public transport with youngsters and watching them along the streets, one would notice that their behaviour was wanting.
“The ill conduct displayed by young people especially the girl-child has motivated me and my workmate, Ms Salome Molefi to form an organisation that deals with moulding the character of these youngsters,” said Ms Nnoi.
Jars of Fragrance was formed in July this year to help children between eight and 18 years know how important they are without the attachment of another person.
“We teach girls to be aware of issues such as understanding emotions because we want them to understand that discipline is a way of building them for the better,” she said.
She said they taught them issues that deal with their physical appearance so that they could know how to enhance their natural looks without make ups and synthetic hairs.
Some of the major issues that bring indiscipline among young people, she said were lack of attention by parents, especially in urban areas where parents spend much time at work, as well as reluctance to discipline children.
Ms Nnoi, a teacher by profession said they realised that girls had misconception that they could impress boys by taking alcohol and drugs.
They think that by being involved in love affairs was a way fitting into the society, something she said their organisation existed to demystify.
She said in order to achieve their mission they involve motivational speakers on weekends to have time with the girls registered with them and discuss issues like the importance of growing up as behaved children and teaching them to accept who they were.
Ms Nnoi said Jars of Fragrance is a non-profit making organisation with the interest of helping young girls to be better citizens.
She urged parents not to hesitate bringing their children to the organisation and pleaded with government and non-government organisations to help them realise their dream. ENDS
