Government has been asked to upgrade the Gasita health post into a fully fledged clinic with a maternity wing.
Kgosi Dineo Mothoemang of Gasita told BOPA in an interview that there was an urgent need to upgrade the health post because it was overwhelmed.
“Our village has really grown, the population has increased from 1000 to around 10 000 people and as such, the health post needs to be upgraded to accommodate everyone,” he said.
Kgosi Dineo said he was concerned by high number of home delivery cases due to the fact that women could not make it to nearby health facilities.
“I am always dealing with cases of women giving birth at home, hiking stops and near bars and this bothers me a lot.
I am always assisting newly born babies to acquire birth certificates,” he said.
He explained that an organisation named Hindu Foundation through the assistance of the local MP had offered to upgrade the health post but nothing had been done to date.
Kgosi Mothoemang however said he remained hopeful that the upgrading would be done.
On other issues, he complained about the poor state of the road connecting Motlhalawakgomo to Gasita, saying it had been in that condition for more than 20 years.
The situation, he said, negatively affected public transport operators with some having given up altogether.
Kgosi also decried the slow progress in the development of a plot they were allocated to construct a recreational centre.
He however applauded the recently launched Kgomo-Khumo operation saying stock theft had declined by 15 per cent in the village since its introduction. He pleaded for its continuation until such a time that stock theft was contained.
Kgosi Mothoemang called on livestock owners to care about the welfare of herdsmen who would in turn take proper care of the animals under their care.
He expressed gratitude to government for introducing he Poverty Eradication Programme aimed at uplifting the lives of Batswana.ENDS
