Youth organisation assists pupils on exam preparation
10 Sep 2018
Youth of Excellence International Organisation chairperson, Mr Lawrence Salobati says they have embarked on a programme to empower pupils from junior and primary schools in Molepolole on mindset change to prepare them for their final examinations.
Speaking during a mentorship meeting with Suping Primary School Standard Seven pupils recently, Mr Salobati said their organisation focused on youth development in areas of education, health awareness, entrepreneurship and counselling among others.
He said their organisation was started in 2017 by young teacher trainees from Molepolole College of Education, and that they had already met different stakeholders who shared a similar interest on youth empowerment.
Mr Salobati said during their teacher training, they learned that leaners could get too familiar with their teacher’s voice and that they needed a different voice to motivate them.He said their organisation had received positive feedback from some schools which were willing to work with them on extra revision.
He said they sacrificed their time to help learners improve their results, adding that government alone could not manage to reach-out to the needs of every child, and that everyone has to take part and help improve results in schools.
For her part, a member of Youth of Excellence International Organisation, Ms Tshiamo Oathotse advised the Standard Seven pupils at Suping Primary School to work hard and fulfil their dreams.
He said this could be achieved by having time for revising and resting, and emphasised the importance of writing examinations when the body was refreshed.
She also encouraged them to form study groups and have revision timetables that could help them cover all their material.
She encouraged learners to choose friends that influenced them positively rather than those who would distract them from learning. She said when learners prepared for PSLE examination they should not undermine them and should put more effort in revising subjects that gave them a hard time.
She further urged young leaners to refrain from spending too much time watching television or using phones as that would consume time they could be investing in revision studies.
She said as much as learners watched their favourite television soap actors they should know that they had done their part in their studies.
She advised candidates to pave their way through building their future by attaining excellent grades.
Standard Seven pupil’s around the country will on October 4 write their PSLE examination, and the hope from organisations such as Youth Excellence International Organisation is that more stakeholders come on board for the betterment of children’s education.
Meanwhile, Suping Primary School Parents Teachers Association committee vice chairperson, Mr Keabetswe Rantopa commended efforts by the youth organisation, adding that they should not get tired of the good work of motivation they were offering to their brothers and sisters.
Mr Rantopa encouraged candidates to take note from their elder brothers and sisters who had sacrificed their time to share skills with them, adding that they should make use of what they benchmarked from the youth organisation. ENDS
