Official urges beneficiaries to pull up socks

07 Sep 2018

Beneficiaries of government empowerment programmes have been urged to ensure that their projects achieved the intended purpose of uplifting their lives.

Mr Dimpho Sephunya, assistant statistician from the deputy district commissioner’s office in Tonota Sub-district, made the call recently when awarding beneficiaries small stock under the poverty eradication programme and LIMID.

He noted that some of the projects collapsed due to mismanagement and lack of responsibility on what they had ventured into.

Mr Sephunya said government was concerned with such individuals, adding that it was a waste of government funds which could have been used for other development projects.

He said government intended to economically empower its people with the programmes, and that once they were assisted they should put extra effort to ensure that the projects bore fruit.

He urged beneficiaries to take care of their livestock so that it could multiply to benefit them in future.

He also encouraged them to develop passion and determination on their intended projects, highlighting that with such qualities they could not go wrong even when challenges arose along the way.

Mr Sephunya also noted that  there was still a backlog in the sub-district which they were trying to address.

He lamented the shortage of livestock to be awarded to beneficiaries.

A beneficiary, Mr Orometswe Rankopo, 34, expressed joy to have benefited under the poverty eradication programme. He said  the goats he received would go a long way in improving his life.

Mr Rankopo said he had no livestock before and that he would now live a dignified life.

Mr Goitseone Maleba, who is a farmer, expressed gratitude for the increment in the buying price of the small stock from P700 to P1 000 for females whilst males were sold at P2 000 from P1 400. ENDS
