Former employees donate sanitary pads

04 Sep 2018

Former civil servants who were employed in Tsabong Village through their social club Desert Expedition alongside Babatona Social Club on the August 31 donated sanitary pads to schools in the village.

The beneficiaries included Tsabong, Nhake, Seetelo,Ikanyeng and Maleshe primary schools as well as Tsabong Unified School.

On receiving the donation Kgosi Toto praised the spirit of togetherness and generosity both clubs have shown and urged them to continue giving as this was important to uplift communities.

The noble gesture was initiated by former civil servants employed in Tsabong who took it upon themselves to effect positive change in the community they once served as a way of giving back to the community and appreciating how well they have been taken care of by the Tsabong community.

Items donated included sanitary pads, toothpaste and bathing soaps,  all of which amounted to P9 500 which was raised through donations from individual members as well as organisations.

Desert expedition  is a group of individuals that consists of professionals from both government  and private sector formerly based in Kgalagadi District.

“Children, especially in rural areas as is the case in Tsabong are disadvantaged in almost all areas of academic advancement and socially hence the need to intervene”, said Miss Neo Mothobi who is also secretary of Desert expedition social club.

Ms Mothobi praised the spirit of hospitality that prevails within the Tsabong community stating that it was the same  attitude that urged them to lend a helping hand to the community they once served.

Further, Ms Mothobi said that since examinations were looming  and Kgalagadi continually struggles compared to other regions, through such donation they wish to avoid a situation where students were stressed about their welfare and least focus on their exams.

“For such a gesture to bear fruition is not easy,” she noted.

Most of the former employees of Tsabong are scattered all over the country, making difficult to organise and coordinate better, but in the end our sheer persistence paid off.

Social media platforms were also an integral mode of communication.

“Constant collaboration with Babatona Social Club was very crucial for the realisation of the aims our club set forth since they (Babatona social club)  are no strangers to issues of concern in the village as recently the club helped build a house for one resident,” Ms Mothobi said.

For her part, regional director, Ms Kesenye urged students to be vigilant and work hard to pass their examination as it would ensure that such a gesture done in good faith is not all in vain.

She further advised parents in attendance to play an active part in the education of their children by constant encouragement and ensure they perform to the best of their abilities for better results. Ends
