Parachute Association of Botswana in partnership with Gaborone Skydiving Club donated full set school uniform worth P51 904 to Sowa Primary School recently.
Handing over the donation, Parachute Association of Botswana chairperson, Mr Cyril Nfila said after their association held several activities in the town, they brainstormed on how they could give back to the community that supported them hence they found it suitable to support vulnerable children.
He said the association was formed in 2013, aimed at bringing parachute events to Batswana as well as improving the local economy through tourism attraction. Mr Nfila said they held three events in Nata, then relocated to Sowa town at Makgadikgadi pans, where they had a privilege to give back to the community by supporting the education sector in the same way striving for academic excellence in the country.
He said those activities helped Batswana realise that parachutes were not for tourists. He said people had an opportunity to have a feeling of diving equipment as well as changing their perception about sky diving sport.
Speaking at the event, Flamingo International School headmaster, Mr Rebagamang Sekgekge stated that it was a generous and philanthropic gesture as the association demonstrated beyond doubt, that in the existence of inter-connected global economy and tourism, the long-term sustainability and profitability of business was directly related to the integration of environment and social issues into corporate policy and social impacts. He said companies and associations should demonstrate their good corporate citizenship.
“Education is life, education is blood line of every economy,” he said.
He commended the association for demonstrating their commitment and involvement in community development.
“You can talk about love and caring for the less fortunate, but without demonstration it is nothing,” he said.
Mr Sekgekge stated that corporate social responsibility was an integral part of culture and tradition as enshrined in Vision 2016 pillar of a caring and compassionate nation.
Customers and consumers are increasingly concerned about the global social issues, hence it was imperative that companies and associations and indeed individuals act in an ethical and sustainable way, he said.
In addition, he said, the association through such donations had made a thread that would weave through everything and had also indeed made a difference in the lives of children.
