Ngamiland District Health Management Team (DHMT) has partnered with Hospitality and Tourism Association of Botswana, (HATAB) to bring health services to the workforce in the Delta.
This was said by the chairperson of Maun Administrative Authority (MAA), Mr Mmoedi Modiegi during the sub-council meeting in Maun recently.
He further explained that the council was committed to bringing health services to villages where they were no such services.
Mr Modiegi said they were aware of villages that had no health facilities, but DHMT would provide mobile stops twice a month to recognise settlements with a high volume of clients.
Meanwhile, on the issue of Malaria, Mr Modiegi said the last case recorded was in April 2018, bringing the case for Malaria for the transmission season to sixty with no death records.
He also reminded councillors that Malaria transmission season starts next month, adding that DMHT was readying itself for indoor residual spraying which would commence next month and cover all villages in Ngami except Maun and Phuduhudu.
He also pleaded with communities to continue working hand in hand with them through Community Acting Together to Eliminate Malaria model, which had already been rolled out in Sehithwa and Khwai.
Mr Modiegi commended the community for heeding the call as HIV testing increased from 88 to 101 per cent of the district target.
“We have also managed to have a zero increased transmission of HIV from mother to child and a 97 per cent PMTCT programme uptake.
We have also seen a marked improvement regarding land mobile stop coverage with the district achieving at least 76 per cent in quarter one compared to 65 per cent in quarter four,” he said
Mr Modiegi also stated that in the past, Ngami DHMT managed to conduct successful outreach campaigns in Sehithwa and Shorobe catchment areas.
He said services offered included cervical cancer screening, dental care, eye care and medical consultations in Sehithwa while cervical care screening campaigns was done in Shorobe.
Commenting, Councillor for Bojanala, Mr Luke Motlaleselelo expressed dissatisfaction with the services offered by DHMT to communities in the Delta.
He decried that DHMT had been failing to take mobile clinic to some of his areas such as Ditshiping and Xaxaba. Ends
