Eager to derive an economic means of their own, Moshupa twosome of Ms Kediemetse Kakgosi, 33, and Ms Botshelo Dibotso, 29, embarked on a fashion design business that is growing in leaps and bounds.
The Limkokwing associate degree in fashion and apparel design graduates said after job hunting and later salary not commensurate with their qualifications, they had no option but to solicit funds from government funding programmes.
When narrating their story recently, the duo said the Gender Affairs Department came to their rescue in January 2017 with P245 000 sponsorship to start Kedibots
Fashion Designers and were able to buy machinery and raw materials for the business.
The company designs an assortment of bedding products such as comforters, sheets, pillow cases, curtains, clothes, mats and many other artifacts to customer specifications and requests.
The passionate fashion designers said with the experience gained from different textile manufacturing companies they engaged with after graduating, they perfected their skill to another level.
Strategically located along the Moshupa access road at No-Mathata Shopping Complex, cutomers can easily locate and acces them and it has helped them monopolise business because of their location.
Social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter and Whatsapp has also come handy to market their business and has even given them exposure to customers from different parts of the country.
They also noted that attending expos to showcase their products was educational and uplifting, and helped them lure more customers to buy their products. Ms Dibotso noted that wherever they served customers, they ensured that they left a mark and that customers were delighted with their service.
To the duo book keeping is a critical tool whether they are making a profit or loss, and through teamwork, passion and tenacity they have seen the success of the business despite challenges of high rental costs and occasional power cuts which affected business.
The agile business women advised young people to do market research and a feasibility study before they could venture into any business as they were critical to the success or failure of any business endeavour. ENDS
