BPS recruits 3 602 special constables

Parliament has been told that a total of 3 602 special constables have been recruited by the Botswana Police Service (BPS) since the introduction of the special constable cadre.
The Minister of Defence, Justice and Security, Mr Dikgakgamatso Seretse said during the same period, 1 552 special constables were converted into police officers while during the same period 1 782 recruits who had never been engaged as special constables were recruited by Botswana Police Service.
Gaborone Central MP, Mr Dumelang Saleshando had wanted the minister to state the number of special constables recruited by BPS since the introduction of the cadre.
Mr Saleshando also wanted to know the number of recruits who were previously special constables and those who had never been engaged as special constables. ENDS
