Madome finds niche in catering

Ms Maria Madome's love for food and cooking has propelled her to establish a catering business named: Inform Management in Bobonong.

In an interview, she said she used her savings to kick-start her catering business in 2000.

The 34-year-old explained that at first she operated a kiosk near the Bobonong Mall where she cooked and sold magwinya, beef stew and soup, but due to the low turn up of customers, she changed and started preparing formal lunches.

Ms Madome explained that she also prepared a variety of dishes, such as chicken, beef, rice, spaghetti and macaroni.

She also offers Setswana dishes such as bogobe jwa lerotse, seswaa, morogo as well as papa. All dishes are sold at P20 a plate.

Ms Madome said although her parents taught her to cook, she learnt some of the recipes on her own, adding “sometimes I experiment on how the product tastes from cooking varieties.”

Besides selling food to individuals at the Bobonong Mall, Ms Madome also caters for events and workshops.

She said challenges in securing catering tenders were amongst theproblems faced by the catering industry.

Ms Madome said her future plan was to run her business from a well-equipped mobile caravan.

She encouraged young unemployed Batswana to do something about their lives. ENDS
