Fathers have duty to fend for children

29 Aug 2018

Kgosi Tshwaro Masisi of Mabesekwa says it is imperative for young parents to play an active role in caring for their children.

Speaking in an interview with BOPA, Kgosi Masisi expressed concern that some of the youths from the settlements in the outskirts of Mabesekwa were not concerned about the wellfare of their children.

He said some had a tendency of abandoning their children under the guise that they were going to search for greener pastures in cities and towns, adding that once they were gone, they forgot about their children, which ofteneleft grandparents with the burden of taking care of the abandoned young ones.

He said some of the children were forced to migrate to lands and cattleposts to be safe under the care of their grandparents, thus abandoning school, adding that some of the grandparents were too old to satisfactorily take care of the children.

He said the absent parents forced the children to grow up under harsh conditions, which compromised their well-being and eventually negatively impacting on their academic performance and general behaviour.

Kgosi Masisi said children needed to be given parental love, attention and be provided with necessities such as clean clothes, health and education. ENDS
