Youth group tackles sexuality issues through traditional games

Kanye-based Bobela Support Group will on September 1 host traditional games at BOFWA grounds, with the intention to provide an interaction platform for people of different sexualities.
In an interview, Bobela Support Group vice chairperson, Tumisang Mmokele said the group was formed by young people with the objective to address gender and sexuality issues.
He said they were using traditional games to bring people of different sexualities together.
He said the traditional games, which they are hosting for the second time, would be divided into outdoor and indoor categories.
“For the indoor games we have morabaraba, mohele and diketo while the outddor games include dibeke and koi, among others,” he said.
Additionally, Mmokele said they have couples’ games such as sack and egg races which would be used to assess the communication and interaction skills between couples.
He said unlike last year, this year they have reduced the number of games so that they do not lose focus of the objective.
“We hosted the event for the first time last year so we used it as a learning curve. Last year we had many games and ended up losing track of the day’s objective, therefore we have resolved to reduce the games so that we achieve our mandate,” he said.
Furthermore, he said they had engaged stakeholders such as Lesbians, Gays and Bisexuals of Botswana (LEGABIBO) and Botswana Network on Ethics, Law and HIV/AIDS (BONELA) for information dissemination on sexuality issues, and availed services such as HIV testing and counselling.
He said registration for indoor and outdoor games would be P7 and P5 respectively while registration for couples was P10.
Proceeds, he said, would be channeled towards addressing challenges at Seherelela Primary School. ENDS
