CMS fails to meet drugs demand
28 Aug 2018
Availability of drugs continues to decline in the Southern District as Central Medical Stores fails to supply the required amounts, Kanye Administrative Authority sub-council chairperson Mr Tlhomamo Dibeela has said.
Mr Dibeela said though the District Health Management Team continued to borrow drugs from other districts which had better supply, it not solve the critical shortage of drugs in the district.
On another issue, he said sexually transmitted infections were a concern in the district saying while government had committed resources to the reduction or zero new infections of HIV/ AIDS, the occurrence of incidences were a clear indication that some still indulged in unsafe sexual activities.
He stressed that the Department of Health Management was working hand in hand with Botswana Family Welfare Association (BOFWA) to have comprehensive sexuality education classes twice weekly at Kgawatlheng Clinic by the end of August 2018 for out of school youth and adolescents as part of efforts to educate people about sexually transmitted infections.
Mr Dibeela said the initiative aimed at providing health education on challenges that made it harder for young people to cope such as the growing number of teenage pregnancies, dropping out of school, becoming infected with STI and HIV, alcohol and drug abuse, rape and living with HIV.
He pleaded with council members to address health issues in their respective dikgotla and to encourage the youth to engage in safe sexual intercourse to prevent the spread of HIV. ENDS
