Kweneng District celebrates ISO status

28 Aug 2018

Kweneng District Council (KDC) is celebrating the achievement of being the only local authority to remain certified for conforming to the BOS ISO 9001: 2015 requirements.

Delivering a speech during the Kweneng District full council meeting on August 27, council chairperson, Mr Jeffery Sibisibi said he was hopeful that celebrating the certification would help facilitate the delivery of services.

The achievement, according to the council chairperson, followed the decision by the certification approval committee where KDC was certified and issued with an ISO 9001:2015 certification licence.

“It is my profound pleasure to announce that Kweneng District Council has been found to conform to requirements of ISO 9001: 2015 quality management system as a way of improving organisational performance,” highlighted the council chairperson.

The council was further briefed about the completion of KDC’s five years strategic plan that was accomplished through a collaborative effort and consultation processes with communities.

The strategy, he said, aimed at achieving among others 10 critical areas such as to build resilient communities, improve revenue generation, improve programme execution, improve decentralisation, improve stakeholder collaboration, incorporate enterprise risk management, improve learning and growth as well as optimise processes and delivery through technology.

He further made an update on the outcome of the litigation process between Kweneng District Council and Estate Construction Company over the Molepolole Bus Terminus and associated works project resulting with KDC losing the appeal.

“An order was therefore made for KDC to pay a total of over P16 million inclusive of compound interest to the contractor,” he said.

In an effort to address the deplorable state of health facilities in the district, the council chairperson said the Ministry of Health and Wellness was working towards engaging a consultancy for the infrastructure maintenance and soft services.

The consultancy, he said, would be engaged to prepare among others drawings, condition survey and compile asserts register for all health facilities.

“However, it is our hope that going forward a significant number of our facilities will be maintained as in the past the challenge was with the availability of staff that make the assessment of facilities, the scope which has now been outsourced,” he said.

The DHMT, he said, was working towards addressing the existing challenges by coming up with ways on how best they could be addressed, hence the need for outsourcing services.

He said despite the accreditation of two Molepolole health facilities being Phuthadikobo and Scottish Livingstone Hospital, the latter still appeared to have not been able to conform while the former had since been able to retain its accreditation.

“It was in this regard that Scottish Livingstone was ordered to address non-conformities and submit relevant evidence by November,” he said.

He reported the procurement of 10 porta cabins valued at P4.9 million as remedial measures to improve overcrowding in some schools in the district.

Mogoditshane junior as the most affected school has been allocated four while Lempu, Ikageng and Ledumadumane would each get two.

Mr Sibisibi expressed gratitude over the allocation of 100 street lights by government to Kweneng,  20 of the allocation had since been erected in Molepolole while the remaining 80 would benefit Mogodistshane. ENDS
