MP wants govt to waiver visa requirements for Bennet
30 Jul 2013
The MP for Maun West, Mr Tawana Moremi has presented a motion that called on government to waiver visa requirements for Mr Gordon Bennett so as to allow him to provide Basarwa with legal representation of their choice.
Presenting the motion, Mr Moremi said Basarwa should be allowed to have legal representation of their choice, adding that this could only happen if the government waivered visa requirements. “By denying him entry government is in turn denying Basarwa legal representation of their choice,” he said.
Mr Moremi said denying Mr Bennett entry into Botswana should not be pinned on visa requirements, as he was representing people in Botswana. “What I know is that Bennett has only come to Botswana to represent Basarwa in their case against government and nothing else. We all know that Basarwa are a disadvantaged community that is the reason why they asked for this man’s help,” he said. ENDS
