Ministry not aware of acute shortage of textbooks
30 Jul 2013
The Assistant Minister of Education and Skills Development, Mr Patrick Masimolole says the ministry has been informed about schools where children do not have adequate textbooks.
However, he said he was not aware of any acute shortage of textbooks in schools. “My ministry, through auditing has realised that there are instances where children share core textbooks. To ameliorate the situation, procurement of textbooks for this current financial year has been centralised to ensure all schools get adequate supplies,” said Mr Masimolole. He explained that tenders were being processed and that it was expected that books would be in schools by December 2013 for 2014.
The Member of Parliament for Francistown South, Mr Wynter Mmolotsi had asked whether the ministry was aware of acute shortage of textbooks. He also wanted to know what the ministry was doing to ameliorate the situation. ENDS
