Police XI GU share spoils
26 Aug 2018
Bonolo Fraiser’s stoppage time goal rescued a 1-all draw for the home side Police XI against visiting Gaborone United in a lukewarm BTC Premiership encounter at Lobatse Sports Complex on August 25.
Just as it looked like the beleaguered Gaborone giants were headed for victory after an embarrassing league opener against cross town rivals Sharps Shooting Stars in Molepolole last week, Fraiser scored his second goal in his second appearance for his new team to pull a last gasp equaliser at death.
GU’s prodigal son Jackie Mothatego had put the visiting team on the driving seat in the first half and Police struggled to come to terms with the lead.
As if that was not enough, the home side received a major blow when their strong man, Keabetswe Jenamiso was dismissed after a second bookable offence.
Police felt the absence of Jenamiso who had a mammoth task of stopping the likes of Dirang Moloi going forward.
Poloko Nkalolang, who was introduced to replace the ineffective Letswetse Leririma in Police attack watched disparately as his glancing header was comfortably collected by the stocky GU keeper, Tumisang Selolwane.
Speedy winger Mandla Mgadla had several breaks into Police last line of defence but could not direct the most important last touch inside the box. His frustrations were deservedly rewarded when he was shown red for unsportman behaviour.
The Jungle Kings would not be beaten as Fraiser punished a poorly organised GU defence with an excellent tap after a couple of good passes.
Immediately after the Police and GU encounter Lobatse giants Extension Gunners welcomed Mahalapye BR Highlanders.
The hosts opened the score sheet with less than three minutes on the clock after Oabile Makopo broke the ice with a well curved freekick.
Gunners’ new signee Ogomoditse Sitang extended the lead for his team with a spectacular cross that beat Highlanders keeper Lapologang Molatlhegi to the top right corner.
Mogakolodi Balototse skewed a penalty kick high above the goal posts, but the visitors had a sigh of relief after Mosimanegape Ntwaetsile put the ball in his own net. BR Highlanders fought to the bitter end.
In other league games played on August 25, Miscellaneous beat Black Forest 2-1, Jwaneng Galaxy continued their goal scoring spree putting 5 past Security Systems.
Mochudi Centre Chiefs conceded yet another three goals in two consecutive games after they failed to respond against the on form Sharps Shooting Stars. ENDS
