Morupisi encourages public servants to represent country well
23 Aug 2018
Permanent Secretary to the President, Mr Carter Morupisi has implored North West District public officers to conduct themselves in a manner that would improve the country’s image and revenue.
“You are at the heart of the country’s second revenue generating region and if you do not treat the recipients of your services well, tourists included, know that you are degrading the country’s image and contributing to the reduction of its revenue,” said Mr Morupisi.
Mr Morupisi, who is also secretary to Cabinet said this when addressing civil servants in Maun on August 22.
He told the public servants that they should effectively play their role in creating a conducive environment for investment and job creation in the country.
“Be swift in decision making and produce top notch service delivery,” emphasised Mr Morupisi, noting that industries that supported tourism in the region such as hotels, aviation and others depended on the public service for their growth.
He urged public servants to support President Mokgweetsi Masisi’s road map as it was meant to improve the country’s service delivery and achieve economic prosperity.
“This is the roadmap that we should understand and support,” noted Mr Morupisi who further explained that there were a lot of things the President would like to change in an effort to take the country forward.
Mr Morupisi encouraged the public servants to deliver on their mandate within the provisions of the law as this would contribute to good governance, one of the key aspects in the President’s road map.
“We have the responsibility to ensure that we deliver our services to the nation within the constraints of the law. Recipients of our services should also be reminded of this,” he stressed.
Mr Morupisi said it was the intention of government to do away with laws that hindered service delivery to make the country a better place in terms of an efficient and effective service delivery.
“His Excellency wishes that service delivery in this country can be fast tracked. Compile issues and laws that you think hampere services delivery and forward them to the District Commissioner’s office,” he advised the public servants.
Mr Morupisi said government would de-centralice some of the decision making to enhance service delivery.
He said supervisors were fond of referring to Gaborone before they make decisions. He implored them to know government processes so that they could make right decisions.
Also, he asked public servants to conduct themselves well within the society, the same way as they conducted themselves at their respective work places.
Mr Morupisi said it was President Masisi’s vision to create a National Transformation Strategy that would take the country forward in terms of creating a highly skilled workforce not only in government but private sector as well.
He told public servants that education was critical and therefore they should enroll for further education as the government would reimburse them as long as they had asked for permission and the course was in line with their profession.
"Government resources are limited to absorb all of you for training," said Mr Morupisi noting that the local market was also small to absorb everyone therefore a highly skilled person could get a job everywhere in the world. ENDS
