22 Aug 2018
President Mokgweetsi Masisi on August 22 received letters of credence from three envoys accredited to Botswana.
The trio, Mr Park Jong-Dae, Ms Marie-Antoinette Rose-Quatre and Ms Elizabeth Forgor represent South Korea, Seychelles and Ghana respectively.
In his introduction, Mr Jong-Dae said he was looking forward to deepening the outstanding bilateral relations between Botswana and South Korea, especially in the education sphere.
“Education is most important factor for developing nations. Korea was a dire state after the war and had no natural resources but had to rely on its human resource capacity. Botswana has some foundation for good education and already we have Korean instructors here and I hope to see more of them. I want to see teachers and instructors in the ICT sector and other areas of development,” he said.
He said cooperation must be spread to other areas such as energy, infrastructure development and defence.
For her part, Ms Rose-Quatre said Botswana and Seychelles had enjoyed three decades of cordial ties.
“We have built on several areas of cooperation notably in terms of education. We got a number of teachers from Botswana teaching at our secondary schools. Also we have a lot of our students studying at the University of Botswana,” she said. The two counties, she said, wanted to broaden cooperation to other areas such as trade and tourism.
Ghana’s envoy, Ms Salamatu-Forgor said the two countries’ had long standing relations from the time of independence. She noted that some memoranda of understanding between the two countries had been signed while others were to be considered.
She said they were also yearning to broaden the scope of cooperation as Ghana had a lot to learn from Botswana and vice versa. ENDS
