Work place wellness catalyst to service delivery

Permanent Secretary in the office of the President (PSP) Mr Carter Morupisi says wellness work place programmes are a key catalyst to quality public service delivery.
Delivering a key note address at Tsabong at Kgalagadi district wellness event recently, Mr Morupisi pointed out that the day accorded public servants a chance to take stock of successes and challenges in the work place.
He pointed out that a strong work place reflects an efficient, effective and responsive part that varies social harmony, peace and stability as well as the health of its people.
Mr Morupisi said it was for that reason that government had come up with a work place wellness program to address health issues which were critical in the work place.
He asserted that wellness was important because it was also in line with one of the pillars of 2036 which recognised health as a fundamental right which every citizen was entitled to.
“It is for that reason that government has made health services free and easy to access by citizens through the provision of health care services throughout the country,” he said.
He said that people need to utilise health care services provided so that they could live a health lifestyle and in turn give Batswana quality service.
The PSP said that government was concerned about the upsurge of non-communicable diseases such as diabetes and hypertension though they could be prevented through healthy living, such as proper diet and regular exercise.
He emphasised that government had a responsibility to guarantee access to health care services of the highest standards attainable while individuals on the other hand have the responsibility to pursue healthy lifestyles.
Mr Morupisi encouraged all the attendees to test for HIV as it was the foundation of their health at work, adding that government had introduced the treat all strategy which gave every Motswana an opportunity to be enrolled on medication as soon as they were diagnosed with the disease regardless of the CD4 count.
He appealed to civil servants to assist in encouraging the public to know their HIV status, pointing out that they should know that the battle against the disease has not yet been won.
Mr Morupisi encouraged employees to take wellness issues seriously to reduce boredom by introducing ball sports as they would also be making sure that they enhance their health. ENDS
