Tati Siding leadership unites against drugs
20 Aug 2018
Smuggling and smoking of dagga by some residents of Tati Siding is said to be one of the major concerns in the village.
That was revealed by residents in a kgotla meeting addressed by senior superintendent Nkwebi Chilisa recently.
The residents said it had now become a norm for some individuals to smoke dagga even in public places, something which they said was a contributing factor to the escalating rate of crime in the village.
They also said what was more worrisome was that some school going children had also joined in the vise.
One of the residents, Ms Matlakala James, said it was disappointing that some residents were encouraging crime as they continued to trade in drugs, despite police warnings.
“There are some individuals who are making efforts by the police to fight against crime fruitless by selling drugs in tuck shops,” she said.
Ms James cautioned fellow residents to stop trading in drugs but rather work with police clusters to clean up their village.
In response, Senior Supt Chilisa confirmed that dagga smuggling in the village was worrisome, as reported cases were on the rise.
He cautioned the residents to refrain from the habit, emphasising that it had a negative impact on their health and future as well.
He observed that drug abuse took place among the young generation, who were the leaders of tomorrow and therefore called upon the residents not to hesitate to report crime and even suspicion of crime to the police.
Kgosi France Molalo called on parents to instill good morals on their children from a young age, observing that crime was rife in the country due to lack of parental guidance. ENDS
