Moalosi emerges tops

Botswana Premier League (BPL) has finally announced winners of individual awards for the 2017/18 season, with Township Rollers’ winger Edwin Moalosi getting the Player of the Season and Players’ Player of the Season accolades.

The shortlisting for different categories was done soon after conclusion of the 2017/18 campaign, but the awards ceremony was postponed in June.

What followed afterwards was uncertainty on when the awards would be held.

However, late afternoon on August 16, the BPL office issued a brief statement announcing winners for each category.

“The Botswana Premier League together with BTC (the Sponsor of the League) would like to recognise and acknowledge footballers, administrators, media and other stakeholders who played a part in the 2017/18 footballing season. We thank all stakeholders for their continued support and perseverance. BPL and BTC are grateful for the wonderful enjoyment they helped create throughout the season,” said the BPL.

Moalosi, the mercurial winger who was one of the outstanding performers as Rollers claimed the BTC Premiership and Mascom Top 8 Cup collected the award for the best player.

The accolade came with P100 000.

The winger hit eight league goals during the campaign, which also saw his team qualifying for the group stage of the CAF Champions League.

 He was also voted by his peers as their best player of the campaign, collecting a further P50 000.

Moalosi’s teammate at Mapalastina, goalkeeper Keagile Kgosipula, was recognised as the best goalkeeper of the season, winning P20 000.

Former Gaborone United goal-poacher, Thatayaone Kgamanyane got the top goal scorer award and P50 000.

He netted 20 goals last season before transferring to South Africa top flight club Chippa United in July.

Young BDF XI defender Kitso Mangolo got the young player of the season award which came with P15 000. 

Rollers head coach Nikola Kavazovic was given the coach of the season award and P30 000.

Joshua Bondo - referee of the season (P15 000)

Moemedi Monakwane -assistant referee of the season (P15 000)

Mojaki Monnakgotla (Gabz FM) and Fundi Gaoforwe (RB2) - electronic media of the year  (P10 000)

Mosimanegape Tshoswane (Weekend Post) - print media of the year (P10 000)

Henry Seetso (RB1) - best commentator of the year (P10 000)

Kennedy Ramokone (The Monitor) - best photographer of the year (P10 000). ENDS
