Reforms coordinators have been encouraged to focus on renewing government programmes and policies.
Addressing coordinators at a four-day Public Sector Reforms (PSR) retreat in Mahalapye recently, Acting Minister for Presidential Affairs, Governance and Public Administration, Mr Machana Shamukuni said government continued to review policies in an effort to improve service delivery.
Mr Shamukuni told participants that reinventing government was among primary objectives of President Mokgweetsi Masisi’s road map hence the need to review such in line with the national development plan, vision 2036 as well as the President’s road map.
He also told them that government was currently faced with a challenge of growing numbers of unemployed graduates and therefore important to align reforms towards addressing such challenges.
Meanwhile, PSR coordinator, Dr Omponye Kereteletswe said in an interview that the retreat was focused on a broad public sector transformation.
Dr Kereteletswe said reforms coordinators from various ministries and other public institutions like PEEPA, BNPC and BITRI were part of the retreat.
He said President Masisi had laid down an agenda for government to be rejuvenated, grow the private sector in an effort to create employment opportunities.
“For that to be achieved all the concerned parties with a stake in improving government must regroup and come up with concrete plans,” he said adding by so doing all nagging issues in service delivery would be dealt with.
“We must come up with a comprehensive action plan for the reforms to effect,” he added.
Dr Kereteletswe said anticipated changes would grow the private sector resulting in a lean, right sized and more effective government.
“Government must effectively play its role of regulating the entire economy,” he said.
“We are here to seek alignment of vision 2036, NDP 11 and the various strategic plans in the ministries and parastatals.
We are here to come up with an implementation plan with a comprehensive management strategy.”
He said a comprehensive strategy would encompass a well-defined communication plan, organisational change agenda as well as a skills development plan. ENDS
