29 Jul 2013

Secretary for defense in the Ministry of Defence Justice and Security, Mr Augustine Makgonatsotlhe has commended ministry staff and stakeholders for their efforts to ensure that all Batswana lead a dignified live by putting a roof over the heads of the less fortunate members of the society.

Speaking when handing a house donated by the ministry staff in Mogonono settlement on July 26, he said the ministry and Mr Nkola Balosi family had been an item since 2011 with the former celebrating festive season with the Balosi family.

Mr Makgonatsotlhe said their goodwill was captured by the plight afflicting the family, the conditions of the family’s two mentally challenged kids, sleeping in the open with no proper shelter and no means to put food on the table, hence the staff''s adoption of the family.

He commended the ministry staff for leaving and embracing the national vision ideals of promoting a compassionate and caring nation especially to the less fortunate fellow countrymen and encouraged them to do more to help other needy persons.

Councilor Duncan Gower of Hatsalatladi said the ministry efforts were in line with the President’s drive to eradicate poverty and national ideals as espoused by the vision 2016 and should serve as an example to all to start caring for each other.

He said there was need to care for each other as no man was an island and this should be taught to the young to learn to assist fellow humans if the country was to proudly have a citizenry that loved and cared for each other.

Mr Gower said what the ministry did was part of efforts to revive the spirit and culture of self-reliance which were part of Setswana tradition in the past used to care and look after less fortunate society members.

Mogonono kgosi, Ms Goitseone Sekgwa commended the ministry staff for being part of their village developmental efforts since 2011 and embracing national visions’ compassionate and caring ideals.

He said it was comforting to see more and more people helping each other lead dignified lives by providing shelter and shelter through self-reliance efforts. ENDS
