Matsiloje raises funds for centenary celebrations

- Residents of Matsiloje, young and old came together to be part of the 20-kilometre sponsored walk in an attempt to raise funds for the village’s centenary celebrations.
The sponsored walk, which was organised by the Barolong Boo-Seleka Ba Ga Moroka of Matsiloje started at Thekwane/Mupane junction to Matsiloje village and managed to raised P4 200.
The centenary celebrations will be held on November 24 at the main kgotla as a way of recognising the 100 years plus of existence of the Barolong in Matsiloje.
The chief walker, Colonel Keebine Kgakge of the Botswana Defence Force commended those who took part in the walk, saying it demonstrated the spirit of self-reliance.
He appealed to the resident to continue training and exercising because it was good for their health.
He expressed concern about teenage pregnancy among the school-going girls as well as alcohol and drug abuse among the youth and called upon parents to play a parental role in the lives of their children.
Speaking at the event, Matsiloje deputy chief and organising committee chairperson, Kgosi Solomon Segopa applauded residents for their support.
He said the initial plan was to celebrate the centenary in 2016, but due to unforeseen circumstances, they did not succeed.
For his part, Kgosi Eric Moipolai of Matsiloje also expressed delight that residents came in good numbers to support the initiative.
He urged Matsiloje residents residing in towns to contribute to the centenary celebrations in every little way they could.
Meanwhile, North East District Council chairperson, Ms Florah Mpetsane informed the residents that the area Member of Parliament, Mr Sampson Guma had pledged P10 000 towards the celebrations ENDS
