BDF arson victims receive vouchers
29 Jul 2013
The 2 Infantry Brigade Commander, Brigadier Molefi Seikano has handed over shopping vouchers amounting to P40 500 to the 1 Military Garrison, Area S 27 soldiers, whose property was gutted by fire early this year.
The vouchers were donated by Bikers Society of Botswana in partnership with Shoprite and Shoppers. Handing over the vouchers, Brigadier Seikano said the donation marked the closure of donations to the inferno victims.
He said though the donations could not restore what the soldiers and their families lost due to the disaster, they had formed part of their healing process as they indicated they were not alone in their hurt. Brigadier Seikano advised the victims to move on with their lives and desist from dwelling much on what had happened to them.
Still at the event, clothing and cutlery that were donated by other soldiers, business community, government departments, community members, churches and leadership of the city were distributed to the victims. Brigadier Seikano explained that some donations were distributed as soon as they arrived depending on how soon they were needed.
One of the affected, Lance Corporal Monthusi Sebawana appreciated Brigadier Seikano’s leadership and the office of the chaplain for the support they granted the victims during the first days of the disaster.
He said the guidance and counselling they received from the caplain, Captain Moletasaka Moletasaka strengthened them to stand firm and have hope during the time of distress. Lance Corporal Sebawana appreciated all donors, saying it is not about how big or small the donations were but about the compassion of the giver.
The barracks were gutted by fire on January 5 this year, however, there were no deaths or injuries sustained as a result of the fire. An arson case has been opened against a 30 year-old teacher. ENDS
