Kweneng Land Board behind in land registration

Kweneng Land Board is lagging behind in registering plots through the LAPCAS project.
This was said by Kweneng Land Board chairperson, Mr Moemedi Babitseng when addressing land board members during the August and September sitting in Molepolole on Monday.
The land board chairperson stated that the land board was at 44.4 per cent in plot registration, emphasising the need for all land boards to register plots although the registration deadline has already passed. He further encouraged members to put all their resources together to ensure quick implementation of the project, saying they were required to suspend some of their day to day duties in order to prioritise land registration.
On other issues, Mr Babitseng said the plot signage project was also ongoing although it had a number of challenges, especially in the Molepolole Sub Land Board. Some areas in Kweneng, he said, have not yet received plot signage, noting that in some instances some land boards were awaiting to receive them from the manufacturers.
“So far signages have been received in Lephephe, Molepolole and Motokwe only,” he said.
He urged members to distance themselves from corruption and its manifestations in order to succeed.Responding to the chairperson’s remarks, Thamaga Sub Land Board chairperson, Mr Fredrick Malebye highlighted that although land registration should be prioritised across all land boards, the project had affected customer service delivery.
He said when they attended to land registration matters, other issues pertaining to land administration piled up creating a backlog. He added that scheduled board meetings ended up being affected, and that they took a longer period to allocate land and resolve pending issues in some instances.
“The more we put in an effort, the more we create problems such that everything has come to a standstill,” he said
Other members concurred with Mr Malebye, saying the land registration project had affected service delivery. They requested management to engage with decision-making structures at the ministry in order to look into the issue.Responding to members’ comments, the board secretary, Ms Tlotlego Rampa acknowledged members concerns, saying nobody could dispute their concerns. She stated that land registration was a continuous exercise, adding that when priorities clashed and there was urgency to do certain tasks challenges were bound to occur. She said plot signage delays in some areas was caused by the resurveying of some plots and that some had double numbers. ENDS
