Serowe Central Lions club eye campaign Saturday
08 Aug 2018
- Serowe Central Lions Club will conduct free eye screening in a bid to create awareness and reduce the number of eye problem cases.
In an interview during the club’s fundraising initiative recently, the club’s secretary Ms Winnie Jagwer said the screenings would be held at Serowe Bus Rank on Saturday.
“This is the second time we will be hosting the event as we have realised that eye problem affects both young and old in large numbers,” she said. She said some cases could be prevented if attended to on time adding that apart from screening, they would also be giving away some eye wears on the day.
Ms Jagwer said the event will attract some professionals who will give tips on eye care as well as giving referrals to the hospital where necessary or prescriptions for spectacles.
The secretary said they always encouraged people to value their sight by promoting prevention measures as it was better than cure.
She said they had also noted that affordability and accessibility contributed to the growing number of eye problems found in the country adding that their initiative was to meet people halfway.
Ms Jagwer said Lions Club as a non-profitable organization run by volunteers vies to improve people’s wellbeing as they were involved in various charitable deeds.
She said the event would kick off at 10am in the morning until lunch and their services would be free.
Apart from eye screening, the public will also have an opportunity to be screened for cancer, diabetes among other health issues.ENDS
