Member of Parliament for Kanye North constituency has applauded Kgomokasitwa youth led by Theola Theola Social Club for exhibiting a desire to help government develop the village.

Patrick Ralotsia said this during a fundraising soccer and netball tournament for Kgomokasitwa Primary School on Saturday.

Ralotsia pledged his support to the cause but encouraged Kgomokasitwa youth to raise their sights and look beyond just sport.

Ralotsia, to this end, encouraged the teams that participated to register as Societies, look at the business side of sport and use it as a vehicle towards bigger things in life like job creation rather than just recreation.

The legislator explained that it was pretty easier for a collective to get support than anyone working in isolation.

Ralotsia also Minister of Agricultural Development and Food Security said it was desirous of government to see capable Batswana mobilise themselves into social clubs that could help develop the communities which have raised them to become better versions of themselves.

Theola Theola public relations officer Stanley Gaolaolwe said with the tournament, they expressed a wish to make a difference in the village.

He said some challenges they faced growing up in the village were still visible.

Gaolaolwe said they chose sport as a starting point to mobilise people towards a common end but would take other directions going forward.

He said the idea was also to motivate the teams to register and play in formal Botswana Football Association structures.

He said proceeds from the annual tournament would be channeled towards school activities like prize giving ceremonies.

He said they wished to one day have a young person from the village shoot to stardom.

Team elder and event organiser Sebatlo Gaolaolwe for his part said they wanted to use sport to create employment for the youth.

He said their vision was to have a soccer academy in the village one day, and inspire young people to live off talent.

He said another perspective was to market Kgomokasitwa, the village he described as tranquil and crime free, to the outside world.

He said the village had a lot to offer.

He further shared that they would also have an 80km sponsored walk from Kgomokasitwa to Gaborone in due course with a view to raise funds for the school and take the village to the people.

Gaolaolwe has thus urged Batswana to support the initiative.

School head Albertinah Puso was optimistic that the support they received from the club would inspire learners to compete amongst themselves hoping to get prizes and improve the school performance in the process. END
