28 Jul 2013

Ministry of Agriculture handed over Masiatilodi farm to Ngwaketse Land Board in 2007 following completion of animal breeding work in the farm, according to the Assistant Minister of Agriculture, Mr Oreeditse Molebatsi.

Answering a question in Parliament, Mr Molebatsi said the Ngwaketse Land Board subsequently advertised and allocated the farm to a young farmer in 2008.

He said consultative meeting were held with representatives of the communities of Selokolela, Mashana, Gasita and Sesu by staff of the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ngwaketse Land Board in 2008. The Ngwaketse Land Board, he said, informed the communities of the intention to advertise Masiatilodi and 15 other farms.

Member of Parliament for Kanye South, Mr Abram Kesupile had asked the minister why Masiatilodi farm in the Southern District was allocated to one person turning down suggestions and requests by some councillors and communities of Selokolela and Sesu to allocate it to groups for Youth Empowerment or Poverty Eradication projects. Mr Kesupile also wanted to know the extent of consultations prior to the allocation of the farm. ENDS
