Debswana Diamond Company and Botswana Boxing Association (BoBA) have announced a P250 000 sponsorship for this year’s boxing awards to be held in Gaborone on September 8.

The sponsorship was unveiled at the awards launch on July 31. BoBA president, Dr Thato Patlakwe said the sponsorship showed Debswana’s commitment in the development of boxing since the company started funding the code for many years now.

 “I would like to express my sincere thanks to Debswana.

The awards recognise and reward boxers, officials, clubs for the impressive performance they have displayed during the current year,” said the boxing boss.

Dr Patlakwe said the awards had always created keen interest in competitiveness among boxers, something he believed made boxing events more exciting. “As BoBA, we are grateful that Debswana have been supporting us in our quest to recognise exceptional performers year in and year out,” he added. Debswana head of human resources, Lebole Mokoto promised that the company would continue supporting boxing in future in order to assist in improvement of the code.

“Since 2010, Debswana and the boxing association have enjoyed a warm relation characterised by mutual interest, shared values and vision.

Today’s sponsorship launch is yet another testament to this relationship and we believe that these annual awards would motivate upcoming youngsters to develop positive attitude so that they become competitive in the zonal, continental and international competitions,” she said. ENDS
