349 special constables not paid gratuity
28 Jul 2013
The Minister of Defence, Justice and Security Mr Dikgakgamatso Seretse has told Parliament that the number of special constables who have served for more than five years but have not yet been paid their gratuity stands at 349.
Answering a question in Parliament on July 25, Minister Seretse said out of this figure, 52 would be paid their gratuity by July 31 while the remaining 297 claims were still being processed and would be paid as soon as the exercise was completed.
Minister Seretse however noted that this was unacceptable, adding that people who were engaged on a six months contract should not take five years or any longer than immediately after six months before payment of their gratuity, was done.
Member of Parliament for Gaborone Central, Mr Dumelang Saleshando had asked the minister to state the number of Special constables who have served for more than five years but have not yet been paid their gratuity. ENDS
