The fire ignited by former president Lt Gen. Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama’s plea for Batswana to give dignity to the less fortunate by building them houses, continues to burn even after his departure from office.
Setobetobe Cycling Club is the latest organisations to extend a helping hand as it recently donated a house to Nyaladzi Batungamili.
Speaking during the ceremony to hand over the house in Borolong recently, founder of the cycling club and Borolong native, Darius Mlambo said it had always been his mission to give back to the community.
He said the cycling club started in 2015 and and had a burning desire to help Batungamili.
Mlambo said he came up with ways of sourcing funds for the project and engaged in a cycling race that started from Gaborone to Borolong.
The initiative, he said was welcomed by all including the village Kgosi, councillors, Village Development Committee and the community at large.
Though the journey was not easy but with determination, he persevered.
He said when he realised challenges were overpowering him, he started going door to door asking for help and Batswana responded positively as different stakeholders to help in the project.
Chairperson of Tonota Sub-district Council, Anderson Moalosi said what the club did was a welcome development.
Moalosi, who donated five bags of cement, said the gesture was to show support to Mlambo’s initiative.
Batungamili aged 71, appreciated the house and said the house was a blessing. ENDS
