Phitshane Molopo community to benefit from project

Itsoseng Kgalagadi Sand Brick Moulding Project located in Phitshane Molopo is anticipated to enrich the livelihood of its community and outskirts villages.

In an interview, project coordinator, Mr Ethusang Ethusang, said the project started with a six months training on brick moulding from January to June conducted by Botswana Institute for Technology Research and Innovation (BITRI).

He said the main aim of the project was to create employment in order to alleviate poverty and improve the welfare of the group members.

It is also meant to improve the livelihood of the residents and its periphery places and Botswana in general.

Mr Ethusang said 20 members, 14 being females and six males were chosen to pursue the training cutting across all ages.

He explained that from the 20 members, three were chosen after an assessment by the social worker while 17 volunteered.

He said the training focused on brick moulding and they were also equipped with first aid and occupational health and safety basics.

He said as a way of motivation the members were paid a living allowance of P63 per day.

The coordinator said his graduates demonstrated the fearless spirit of approach to the training and are well trained and ready to deliver on their goals.

He said the project is operating well and is currently run by selected committee and has managed to raise P32 260 from sales, effective from April.

Mr Ethusang said they produce 600 units of six-inch solid block made from Kgalagadi pit sand and ordinary portland cement per day.

The visionary coordinator said he foresees success in the project and in the next two years they plan to expand their products by manufacturing other sizes of bricks and other cement products.

Despite the project progressing well, Mr Ethusang decried shortage of water in the village and they rely on purchasing it.

He added that they also have transportation challenges to deliver their goods as well as material.

For her part, BITRI trainer Mr Bampoloki Kopane said his trainees responded well to the training and were hardworking and cooperative.

One of the trainees, Mr Kelemogile Motsewakhumo thanked the government for the opportunity that enriched his life.

He said now that he is competent in brick moulding, he is going to use that skill to make sure that he reaps the fruits of the project. ENDS
