Plans to maintain MetsimotlhabeMolepolole road underway

An official from the Department of Roads in Molepolole says plans to maintain Metsimotlhabe/Molepolole roads will not consider extra work outside the scope due to limited funding.
Principal technical officer, Ms Kefilwe Ndlovu said the focus of the project would be mainly on the maintenance of the existing road that would include among others shoulder widening, re-ceiling and overlaying of asphalt to improve the status of the road.
Her response followed Gamodubu/Mmanoko ward councillor Borumolano Matlhwai’s plea for the department to consider including in the project access roads to villages within 10 kilometres during the undertaking of the Metsimotlhabe/Molepolole roads construction.
Ms Ndlovu stated that such an undertaking could only be considered for new projects.
On the severe crack that had developed on the Hatsalatladi Bridge along the Molepolole/ Lephepe road as per Cllr Kolana Kolana’s request, Ms Ndlovu briefed the council that it would be difficult to undertake the project as per the initial promise as the funding required had since exceeded what they had anticipated.
She said consultations were underway with the Department of Geological Surveys to advise on the extent of damage caused to guide planning.
Mankgwenyane area Cllr Molemisi Motsewabathata had called for the need to improve access at the main Molepolole’s Garanta Cemetery to reduce congestion during burials.
Molepolole sub-council Senior Assistant Council Secretary (SACS) Mr Gofaone Kgabanyane said they would advise accordingly for action by the Umbrella VDC as the matter fell within their jurisdiction.
Kgosi Lawrence Mohaladi complained about the manner in which some MAA councillors conducted themselves during council sessions.
Although he acknowledged the fact that the sub-council had competent and capable individual councillors to play responsible roles of leading development issues within the sub-council, he was disappointed by the manner in which some conduct themselves when given a platform to deliberate on issues affecting development in their respective wards.
“Let us work towards improving individual conduct as the behaviour you sometimes display is likely to offend those who elected you into positions you hold,” advised Kgosi Mhaladi. ENDS
