BOFINET enhances connectivity

29 Jul 2018

Botswana Fibre Networks (BOFINET) has launched the fastest, most reliable Internet dubbed Fibre-To-The-X (FTTX).

The FTTX project started in April 2015 and was completed in July 2017 with the objective to provide ‘very fast’ Internet and one of the most reliable connection media compared to radio, microwave and copper.

FTTX also has less interference and interruption of service as well as little radiation emission.

BOFINET official, Ms Reneilwe Obuseng said during the business seminar organised by BOFINET in Palapye, that BOFINET was not an Internet Service provider rather it is a wholesale provider of national and international telecommunication infrastructure.

She said BOFINET prided itself with more than 9 000 km of fiber connectivity to provide infrastructure capable of providing high speed Internet connectivity as an enabler to business growth.

The FTTX project is geared towards improving Information and Communication Technology usage in the country projects aligned to National Broadband Strategy initiatives.

The project has already been rolled out to 11 major locations in the country.

Ms Obuseng said all sectors could benefit from FTTX citing e-education, BURS e-tax services, Sefalana online selling, Botswana Post online service portal and banking sector.

BOFINET public relations and marketing communications manager Ms Ludo Sefako said BOFINET existed to facilitate the growth of ICT and improving access to information.

She said BOFINET’s key customers were Internet service providers, adding that Palapye was becoming a business hub hence a lot of potential for Internet providers setting up in Palapye.

She said BOFINET had dealings with many Internet Service providers registered with BOCRA, adding that those interested in providing Internet service could register with BOCRA.

She urged those interested in connecting Internet to always check with various ISPs so that they got to choose the best Internet service.

She said often customers complained of poor Internet service, yet the country spent a lot of money on the FTTX project to improve service delivery within government and other sectors of the economy.

She said it was worrisome for the nation to experience slow Internet as it hindered economic growth and service delivery.

She urged the affected customers to seek help from their ISPs. ENDS
