Practical subjects ready learners
18 Jul 2018
Practical subjects have been hailed for helping learners to gain skills to use after school.
Speaking at the recently ended National Practical Subjects Fair, chief education officer in the Ministry of Basic Education in Masunga, Ms Kgomotso Matlhape said practical subjects helped students develop skills and abilities, which could support their professional studies and prepare them for work later on.
She said she was impressed with the exhibition that the learners put up, saying it showed innovation and applauded teachers for nurturing the learners’ talent and creativity.
Ms Matlhape said with encouragement and support, learners could go achieve more and create employment for themselves and others.
She applauded learners who did well at the fair and urged them to continue growing their talents even after they finished school, while encouraging those who did not do well not to give up but to work even harder to improve.
In an interview with BOPA, public relations officer of Northern region office , Mr Richard Moitale said the fair ended well despite other schools not attending due to lack of funds.
He explained that one of the aims of practical subjects was to provide an opportunity for learners to learn practical skills, which would help them in becoming professionals of the future.
Mr Moitale noted that one of the limitations of the fair was that it only ended at national level and learners did not get the opportunity to compete at international level, which would give them an opportunity to learn and benchmark from others. ENDS
