Defence Council handles BDF payment
17 Jul 2018
The matter pertaining to full payment of Botswana Defence Force officers who went for peace keeping missions in Somalia, Lesotho and Mozambique has been taken to the Defence Council for determination and possible settlement.
This was said by Minister of Defence, Justice and Security, Mr Shaw Kgathi, when responding to a question in parliament from Tlokweng MP, Mr Masego Segokgo.“My interrogation of this matter has revealed that decisions pertaining to payments for different contingents are at variance with each other,” he said.
Therefore, he said he had decided to take the matter to the Defence Council for determination and possible settlement. Mr Segokgo had asked Mr Kgathi when BDF officers who went for peace keeping missions in Somalia, Lesotho and Mozambique would be fully paid.
Tlokweng MP also wanted the minister to state why BDF officers were only paid part of the amount and the balance was retained by government, whilst their counterparts from other countries received their money in full while on duty. ENDS
