Agriculture requires patience
12 Jul 2018
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of CEDA Mr Thabo Thamani said agriculture requires patient capital as it is risky.
Speaking at the just-ended Ghanzi agricultural show, Mr Thamani divulged that CEDA had already spent around P161 million in the Ghanzi region and P600 million countrywide on agricultural projects.
He said most of the time, success is determined by effects of climate change, which is now a reality.
He said it is for that reason that authorities should realise such that institutions as CEDA should not be funded from a recurrent budget, but on three-year cycles.
Mr Thamani said when policies are formulated, there must be thorough impact assessment of such on business people, adding that even with good intentions, effects of some can be bad for business.
He revealed that they would soon meet green farming technology experts from Asia to help on how best to profit from the technology, adding that they would also engage government on the concept and a way forward.
The show, which was officially opened by Mr Mokgweetsi Masisi is touted to be the most successful in the country. ENDS
