Dismissal case not resolved
11 Jul 2018
Assistant Minister of Land Management, Water and Sanitation Services Mr Itumeleng Moipisi has told Parliament that the matter in which four Moremi land board members were dismissed has been resolved amicably between the concerned board members, area Member of Parliament and other stakeholders. Mr Moipisi was responding to a question in Parliament from MP for Maun West Mr Tawana Moremi who had wanted to know if the North West District Council was consulted in the dismissal of four Moremi Land Board members in March in line with the Tribal Land Act, Section 6 (3) and if any action was considered regarding the case since ‘willfully disobeying a statutory duty is a Section 132 offence in the Botswana Penal code’.
Mr Moipisi admitted that the North West District Council was not consulted, but the officers had since been reinstated. “It is my understanding that the failure to consult the North West District Council was an unfortunate oversight rather than a willful disobedience of statutory duty,” he said. Consequently, the assistant minister said no action was being contemplated under section 132 of the Penal Code. BOPA
