Rakhudu urges awadees to impart skills to colleagues
09 Jul 2018
Former assistant minister of education, Mr Keletso Rakhudu has challenged employees to replicate the values, skills and knowledge they possess among their colleagues.
“Any achiever who does not replicate themselves are not worthy of being awarded, they would have failed if they do not ensure a healthy, productive work ethic among their colleagues,” he said.
Mr Rakhudu, who was speaking during the Central Region Education Office Excellence Award ceremony, encouraged the awarded to always remember that there was a bounty, which was to multiply their excellence towards achieving prosperity for all.
“You can never achieve customer service to your external customers if you do not start from within.
Start with your own organisation and unit,” he said.
He noted that the excellence awards were a reward system designed to encourage employees for the greater good of the economy, adding that it was through such initiatives that ministries were tasked with recognising their internal customers.
“The mandate of basic education is to create a conducive environment where the 21st century learner thrives as our single most important client for our obligation is the learner,” he said.
He said in order for the county to succeed in creating a knowledge based economy, learners and teachers should be able to compete with the rest of the world for possibilities of improvement in efficiency, productivity, economic growth and the well-being of society.
“The knowledge-intensive tend to be the most dynamic in terms of output and employment growth. We need to strive higher for a more educated and skilled labour. We need to motivate each other, aim higher and begin to think globally,” he said.
Reflecting on the performance of the district, Mr Rakhudu said although there were improvements, there was nothing to celebrate because with such results, government’s efforts in creating a knowledge based economy would be thwarted.
“As we celebrate our excellence, we must look back to see if we have really made it.
We need to know if we are able to compete with the rest of the world. We need to authentically add values that will improve our profession so that we can improve,” he said.
For his part, Central District Regional Education Office director, Mr Sonny Mooketsi said the region was heading in the right direction.
Highlighting the region’s 2017 academic performance, he said 73.3 per cent pass rate was achieved in PSLE, an improvement of 0.3 per cent, 34.5 percentage pass for JCE with an improvement of 1.9 per cent and 24.05 per cent In BGCSE, a decline in performance of 1.5 per cent.
The event, held under the theme, Delivering Quality Service For Sustainable Development: Key Towards Achieving Prosperity For All, recognised employees who exhibited such qualities that will not only help them achieve their goals but also bring success to the organisation. Ends
