Galitos provide employment variety
09 Jul 2018
The opening of a new eatery at the Railpark Mall Food Court is said to be a perfect opportunity to create more employment for the locals as well as increasing competition among fast food outlets in the city.
Speaking at the official opening and launch of the first Galito’s outlet recently, the Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry Ms Bogolo Kenewendo said it was a welcome development that the city continued to experience a different variety of chicken outlets which would not only provide the much-needed employment but would also offer a substitute taste.
She noted that growing numbers of fast food outlets especially chicken was a positive development as even the pricing would be more affordable for most consumers.
Minister Kenewendo, however, said she was delighted that the chickens and other products sold at Galito’s were sourced locally, a development which she said will further uplift and strengthen other locally owned businesses.
Meanwhile, she said it was a good start that the owner of the outlet Ms Keitumetse Mokaila was fairly on her prime age, a trend which she said would encourage and inspire other young people to enter into the business sphere.
She was further elated that the South African franchise was also found in some regional countries, a move which would surely fulfill the region’s regional economic integration initiatives.
For her part, the owner of Galito’s, a flame-grilled chicken Ms Mokaila noted that before venturing into this business she was a practicing attorney but the love for good and fine food drove her to take a chance at a fast food outlet which landed her with the Galito’s brand.
She thanked the Galito’s family for having guided her into setting up the business as well as training her and the entire staff on how to run the business. She said with the training she received, they would provide super service to customers.
Galito’s Group managing director Mr Francios Rousseau reflected on the humble origins of the franchise which started in 2006 in Mpumalanga; Nelspruit South Africa before spreading into other parts of the country and eventually going continental and then globally.
As the group managing director, he will have to visit the country every six weeks to make sure that everything is running as planned.
Giving a vote of thanks, the Minister of Transport and Communications Mr Kitso Mokaila, also husband to the owner, said when his wife ventured into this business she was a bit hesitant because of the rigorous preparatory work which needed to be undertaken but with encouragement she succeeded.
He, however, said he was happy that they have many local partners in this outlet who provide the ingredients, noting that the idea was to open one store every six months in Gaborone before spreading their wings outside the city if the first store proves to be profitable as projected. ENDS
